On a dark and moonless night As I lay asleep I was awoken with a fright To a warm breeze at my feet But it wasn't wind, can't have been And so I wondered what Could bring me that sensation With all my windows shut Then in the black & silent eve I looked to see the time At 3am, on Halloween I heard breath that wasn't mine My eyes were still blind to the dark But there was no mistake I couldn't see, but I could hear Movements I didn't make Black circles grew to clear the scene Until eyes made shadows clearer At 3:01, Halloween I heard something moving nearer Tilting, shifting, moving slow My hands tremble and shake Moving closer? I don't know Were steps I did not take I knew that even if I screamed No one would hear or care Except this thing I could now see This figure standing there Over top me, this black fiend Tall & thin & dead At 3:02, Halloween Its outline at my bed As it crept, I whispered, "Leave..." I prayed that God would hide me At 3:03, Halloween It was standing right beside me As he heaved, his chest expand I saw his skin, his bones I smelled his rotted, bloodied hands A scent not of my own Wake me, wake me! Lord, please, take me! I screamed from deep within When at 3:04, Halloween Its fingers touched my skin Then I couldn't see, him nor me No sound, nor smell, nor sight I thought perhaps he'd gone away That God saved me that night But now I know what this all means Though I cannot see the time At 3:05, Halloween I heard no breath, not even mine
